Performed by the Black Crowes, 1992
Wake me when the day breaks
Show me how the sun shines
Tell me about your heartaches
Who could be so unkind?
Do you dream to touch me?
And smile down deep inside
Or could you just kill me?
It's hard to make up your mind, sometimes.
My angels, my devils, my thorn in my pride.
Are you wanting inspiration
You spill your secrets on me
Then you tell me with a whisper
Of things that will never be.
Do you hear me breathing?
Does it make you want to scream?
Did you ever like a bad dream?
Sometimes life is obscene.
My angels, my devils, my thorn in my pride.
Lover cover me with your sleep
Let your love light shine
Lover cover me with a good dream
Let your love light shine
This song is written by the Black Crowes, who are an awesome band with great music. I am not truly sure what the meaning of the song is for the band, but it probably has to do with a relationship between a man and woman, who are cheating on someone with each other. The woman confides to him about her relationship troubles at home , but does not leave. She makes promises about a relationship between them that will never come true. And his pride does not allow him to leave her. She is his thorn.
Many of the lyrics can relate to Chandara in many ways. Especially lines 4-8 in the first verse. I imagine she felt like "how could he!" She probably thought at some point maybe he did want her dead because she was so unruly, and that's why he did it. Then asking "Do you dream to touch me?" , that is a hard one that Chidam will have to live with. When he does dream about her and if he does think of touching her, then the reality is it will probably quickly turn to guilt when he thinks about why he can't touch her. In the second verse the line "Did you ever feel like a bad dream" sums up Chandara's emotions at that point. If only this was all a dream that she could wake up from, and that probably goes for Chidam's emotions to. This song also relates to my theme because this woman really gets the best of his pride. He is not able to stand strong against her. He has such love for her that he is miserable just to be with her, which in turn probably gives a boost to her pride and ego.
Its about loyalty. She has none. He can’t let go. She knows it. Without his pride he’s a puppet
ReplyDeleteI feel it's a person that is being somewhat sarcastic to the long term partner that doesn't want the relationship anymore .. and it's the angels , the devil's , the thorn in tier pride thats keeping that person from leaving . I can totally relate.. I use to listen to this song when I was going thru the same thing .
ReplyDeleteI'm adding to it . The person is saying this to the one who no longer wants to be in the relationship.and In somewhat of a sarcastic hurtful tone ,but the angels the devil'the thorn in their pride is preventing them from leaving the person who no longers want the relationship,
